Preplanning space was great. Before I got started with anything in Unreal Engine I first sat and wrote down the restrictions of the project and the goals. From there I decided to "sketch" the bounds of the project using large boxes in Unreal to visualize the amount of area I would have to work with. Once I had that visualized I wrote down what each area should be used for (introducing skills, the difficulty, how open or how tight). Once had an idea I used blocks to make a path being sure to stay in the bounds and to move each area in the position that "felt" like what I was trying to accomplished. I did all this without worrying about what the area would look like or contain. Just how big each section would be, what the purpose of each section was, and the path the player should take. Doing this for actually designing anything made making the design easier and made changing the design simpler because once it was laid out it was just a path the character could run through with no obstacles. From there I had 0 issues fitting everything into the correct space.
